RWW BIRD DOG TRAINING

We specialize in training Labrador Retrievers, German Shorthair Pointers and Brittany's, and over the years have developed a special regimen of training for each of these unique breeds of dog. The training can be geared towards AKC hunt test or field trials.

Our training philosophy is to bring each dog to its potential and is based in an actual hunting environment on the preserve. Early on, the dogs are trained on pigeons, quail, chukar, pheasant and waterfowl. To bring their instincts to potential, they are trained in real hunting environments to find, point and retrieve the birds.

Your pointing dog will be trained to point and find quail, pheasant, chukar. The preserve provides an added advantage that you do not find in other bird dogs' training. The preserve provides an ample opportunity to train the dogs in a real hunting situations to point and retrieve from the land. Upon your request your pointing dog can be trained to retrieve from the water. This may increase the time of training.

We also train water dogs. Retrievers are natural water dogs, to see a well trained dog is something of pure beauty. If you would like to see them work in thier element, please contact us in advance for an appointment. If you already have a retriever, you may choose the level of training, but first we recommend you to come so that we may evaluate your dog.

We start with the basic training that includes: come, heel, whoa (stop), sit, stay and other commands. More advance training may include: fetch command, pointing, steady on the wing and the fly, as well as response to various whistle commands. For better results, your involvement early on in the training will ensure excellent results. You may choose either to leave the dog in our kennel and we will do all the training, or you may prefer a one on one lesson to take your dog back after each session. Our rates are based on a monthly basis, however if you prefer private training, these charges are based on an hourly basis. The private lessons will train the owner as a handler as well as training the dog. This is based on an hourly rate.

We only train limited number of dogs and therefore availability and schedules are limited. We invite you to visit us to see how these wonderful dogs work and to discuss your special training needs with your dog, or consider having one of our puppies if they are available.

Please contact us for more details.

RWW BREEDING PROGRAM

Our approach to breeding is to bring the best qualities of each breed. Selective breeding of bird dogs is critical in maintaining their hunting instincts. We breed a very limited number of AKC registered Labs, Brittany's and German Shorthair Pointers from selected hunting dog stock that have been proven in the field and water alike. Due to the limited number of puppies, we recommend that you discuss your particular needs with us in advance for availability. Also, check out the puppy section of this website for available litters.

We have listed here a very brief description of the three types of dogs that we normally breed and train here. We would suggest however that you call us with any questions, as well as do your own research on what type of dog is best for you.

brittany's

These are wonderful dogs and we have been working with this special breed for a very long time. We can trace our championship hunting bloodlines back to 1936! They are courageous hunters despite their size. They can retrieve large birds from the water or the land, and are known for their subperb pointing abilities. They can be a potential alternative for someone who needs a bit “smaller” hunting companion.

german shorthair pointer's

GSP's are simply majestic and in many way’s are the “thoroughbreds” of bird hunting dogs. GSP’s are pointing dogs that are suited for all hunting environments. They perform well on land and in the water. Watching a steady GSP point a bird or covey, is something that will remain with you for a long time, if not forever. These dogs are born and bred to hunt!

labrador retrievers

Lab's are natural water dogs and in most instances make great family pets, as well as hunting companions. Our labs are used for demonstrations at Ducks Unlimited events, as well as for hunting as guide dogs. We breed only the best proven stock. We recommend you to come and see our labs perform, and view the quality of our stock yourself.
